Integrating Concepts with Real-World Experiments and Experiences
Science at Anneliese Schools is a very popular subject, because students have the opportunity to work with exciting, hands-on science manipulatives and are exposed to challenging scientific principles. We believe that Science comes naturally to children when they are fueled by their own endless curiosity. Rather than fragmenting and over-simplifying Science, our goal is to teach the subject holistically, integrating foundational concepts with experiments that lead to real understanding.
In addition to a research-based, Science standards curriculum for grades K-5, we encourage teachers to apply "everyday science" in their classrooms. Gardening, cooking, nutrition and environmental-awareness projects abound at our school and provide opportunities for children use their scientific knowledge in a way that relates to their world. In addition, field studies in the canyon and on the coastline, museum visits, educational videos and guest presenters supplement children’s experiences, while strengthening their belief that science is all around them.
